Magic Mushroom Grow kits
Magic mushroom grow kits provide everything needed to cultivate psilocybin-containing mushrooms at home: a fully colonized mycelium substrate, a grow bag for humidity control, and basic setup instructions. No prior cultivation experience is needed for our Psilocybe cubensis kits. We also stock specialist Copelandia grow kits for experienced growers.

What a Grow Kit Contains — and Why It Works
A ready-to-grow mushroom kit removes the most difficult part of home cultivation: substrate preparation and inoculation. The substrate inside each kit has already been colonized by mycelium under controlled laboratory conditions before packaging. What arrives at the retailer — and then the customer, is a living kit ready to fruit with only basic care.
The substrate is typically a grain and vermiculite mixture that has been sterilized, inoculated, and allowed to fully colonize before sealing. This colonized block sits inside a grow bag that creates a semi-sealed humid microclimate. Fruiting is triggered by introducing fresh air exchange and maintaining appropriate humidity and temperature.
Contamination Prevention
The primary failure mode in home cultivation is contamination. Our kits are produced under clean-room conditions with quality controls at each step. Retailers should advise customers to keep the kit away from direct sunlight, open the bag as little as necessary, and work with clean hands. The heat mat accessory helps maintain stable temperature, reducing contamination risk from thermal stress.
Typical Yields and Multiple Flushes
A single kit typically yields 2–4 harvests. The first flush is usually the heaviest; subsequent flushes decrease in volume but continue for several rounds under good conditions. The McKennaii grow kit is one of our higher-yielding options in terms of first flush weight.
Grow Kits vs. Magic Truffles
Grow kits and truffles serve different customer types. Truffles are a ready-to-use product; grow kits appeal to customers who want an active cultivation experience and larger volumes over time. Retailers who stock both categories serve a broader customer base. See our magic truffles range for the direct-use alternative.
Our grow kits arrive fully colonized: the mycelium has already spread through the substrate under laboratory conditions. Customers do not need to inoculate anything. The kit is ready to fruit after a brief soaking and setup in the provided grow bag.
Psilocybe cubensis fruits well between 23–26°C. Temperatures below 18°C slow colonization and fruiting significantly. We recommend the heat mat accessory for customers in cooler environments or during winter months.
Unopened grow kits can be stored refrigerated at 2–4°C for approximately 3–6 months. The colonized mycelium remains viable under cold storage. Rotate stock and advise customers to start their kit within the storage window indicated on packaging.
Cubensis kits use grain-based substrate and are suitable for beginners. Copelandia kits require a manure-based substrate, more stable temperatures, and more careful humidity management. See our Copelandia grow kits page for full details on this specialist option.
