McKennaii Grow Kit | Psilocybe Cubensis
The McKennaii is named after ethnobotanist Terence McKenna and is one of the more potent cubensis varieties. Dense, compact fruiting bodies with dark caps. A grow kit for experienced cultivators looking for a challenge beyond the standard varieties.
McKennaii: The Cultivator's Challenge
The McKennaii Psilocybe cubensis is named in honour of ethnobotanist Terence McKenna, whose work helped bring psilocybin mushrooms into broader cultural awareness through his books and lectures in the 1980s and 1990s. This variety has earned a reputation among experienced cultivators as one of the more potent cubensis strains. The McKennaii produces dense, compact fruiting bodies with a characteristic dark cap colouration that ranges from deep brown to almost black when mature.
Growth Profile: Compact and Dense
Unlike the tall, slender fruits of the Thai or the wide-capped Golden Teacher, the McKennaii grows compact and sturdy. The stems are thick relative to the cap size, and the overall stature is shorter but denser. Colonisation proceeds at a steady pace at 22-25 degrees C, and the kit typically delivers three or more flushes. The McKennaii can be slightly more sensitive to temperature swings than the B+ or Mexican, so maintaining consistent conditions pays off with this variety.
Fully colonised and ready to fruit. Growth bag with air filters and paper clips included. Refrigerate before use; shelf life three to six months. The McKennaii benefits from careful humidity management; mist the inside of the bag regularly but avoid pooling water on the substrate surface.
Positioning in Your Shop
The McKennaii is the grow kit for experienced customers who already know the basics. Its reputation precedes it, so name recognition alone drives sales among returning buyers. Position it as the premium tier above your B+ and Mexican kits, for customers who want to step up their cultivation game.
The McKennaii is better suited to growers with some experience. It is slightly more sensitive to environmental conditions than beginner varieties like the B+ or Mexican. For first-time growers, we recommend starting with one of those varieties first.
The McKennaii is known within the cultivation community for producing dense fruiting bodies with a higher psilocybin concentration than average cubensis varieties. Its reputation has been built through decades of cultivator experience and feedback.
