Red Kratom: Processing and Alkaloid Profile

Mitragyna speciosa leaves develop differently at each stage of the plant's growth cycle. Leaves used for red kratom are typically at full maturity, when alkaloid accumulation is at its highest. After harvest, they undergo extended drying — sometimes indoors, sometimes under UV light or sunlight — using various drying methods. Each approach produces a subtly different alkaloid fingerprint.

The drying variables are not cosmetic. They affect the ratio and concentration of the primary alkaloids mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, as well as minor alkaloids like speciociliatine and paynantheine. This is why two red kratom products from different origins or processors can have noticeably different profiles despite sharing the same leaf color classification.

Origins and Strain Variation

Our red kratom comes from community plantations near Jongkong-Putussibau in the Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan: a fertile alluvial growing zone within the Sentarum Lake National Park area. Varieties named Sumatra, Borneo, Bali, and Maeng Da are trade names that distinguish batches, not separate growing origins.
